samforpresAs elections come closer, which are still a long times away, the voices will get louder. Does being louder constitute for your absolute victory? If you spend ten minutes on the internet Bush bashing is very prominent on sites such as Digg or YouTube. It seems that there is absolutely no one that supports him out here on the internet. During the 2004 elections the Democrats were so loud I was rather concerned that we were going to see a loss. Truth be told in the end the President won, not by a hair or a long shot but he won well enough.

The elections next year won’t be much different. I don’t believe that Bush’s low approval rating is enough on it’s own to seal the Republican’s fate. The truth is that it all depends on what happens from now until then. If there is a large event that occurs for the Republican’s or Democrat’s benefit you will see things tipped. The Democrats have failed to accomplish why they were voted into the house and senate and we will see if they are able to get anything done for their party. American’s tend to have a very short memory when it comes to politics of anything news related in general so the more that happens closest to November will stick out. This is obvious enough when people seem to forget about 9/11 and write off terrorists as not a threat; as if it’s 2000 all over again.

No matter how unpopular President Bush gets it doesn’t atomically mean the Republican party is in more demise than the Democrats. According to Fox News polls the president’s approval rating is at 34%. However, the poll also shows that 49% disapprove of how Congress is doing. A poll done on the 27-28 of February has those polled: 43% as Democrat, 32% as Republican, 17% Independent, 3% other and 5% don’t know or refused to tell. Take that last poll as you may considering the month before showed 37% to 36% for Dems to Republicans. Whatever the case it’s up in the air and the Democrats shouldn’t expect a landslide. Even if your a conspiracist who thinks Bush stole the war in 2000 he obviously won in 2004 even though all the noise was nothing but hate.

If the Democrats are successful in getting us out of Iraq before the elections it will be a different story. The Democrats will not be able to shout about leaving but will have to talk about what’s next. The Democrats don’t do very will with hypotheticals so that would be interesting to see. On the other hand if Bush starts to pull troops you will see the approval ratings go up towards Bush from Democrats and independents. Politics is just that; a game that people play. The President may be damaging the Republican parties’ approval overall but that doesn’t mean it’s all over for them in ‘08. It takes a lot to overturn any given person if they have very solid political views. If you hate the Iraq war you will most likely vote Democrat no matter what happens because you hate Bush and his party. If you support the war, are Pro-Life and against gay marriage you will be voting Republican. But if you are independent or simply unsure of things you are the person that will be targeted to no end. Whatever the case may be don’t write anyone out just yet, there is a very long road ahead of us.
