“BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — Louisiana became the first American state to outlaw a late-term abortion procedure on Friday, when the governor approved legislation allowing doctors to be prosecuted for performing the surgery.” -Foxnews
Completely surprising me today was news that Louisiana Democratic Gov. Kathleen Blanco has signed a bill allowing persecution of doctors who perform the “medical procedure” known as partial birth abortion; such abortions are only allowed to be performed only if the mother’s life is at stake. Considering my undying belief that all Democrats hate babies I was surprised to see the story when I stopped by foxnews.com for a refresher. The statue reflects a federal ban the President George W. Bush signed into law in 2003 which was upheld in April by the Supreme Court.
The law allows doctors to be fined up to $10,000 for performing illegal abortions as well as up to ten years in prison. Though several states are considering implementing similar bans Louisiana is the first to do so. Make sure to also mark your calendar that it was a Democrat who was the one to start the trend. With abortion such a hot topic among conservative republicans I’m sure such actions will be on the plate; the Democrats are dying for the church vote and they know they can’t win it touting their ‘pro-choice’ flags. Considering that only %10 of abortions are partial-birth this law is only a slice of victory for Pro-Life voters but it is a start and I like where things are headed.
Kathleen Blanco, the first woman to hold the office of governor of Louisiana is currently holding office as the fourth oldest governor in the United States. A strong force behind rebuilding and securing Louisiana after Katrina Kathleen is no fan of President Bush and criticized the administration heavily on their actions to help after the storm. On June 19, 2006 Blanco signed into law a ban on most forms of abortion (unless the life of the mother was in danger or her health would be permanently damaged) once it passed the state legislature. Although she felt exclusions for rape or incest would have “been reasonable,” she felt she should not veto it based on those reasons. Considering partial-birth abortion is extremely barbaric I find it hard to believe anyone could support it despite their political affiliation so I applaud her for taking action.
