Why I Endorse Huckabee
-
As time has passed I have since changed my thoughts on Mike Huckabee. I am not removing this post for the simple fact I did believe Mike was the best candidate. I am fully aware now that this is not the case, feel free to read why here.
In the beginning, I wasn’t quite sure who I was going to endorse for 2008. I was instantly turned off to any possibility of a Democrat as my choice, I do leave that option open but they quickly reminded me why I am a registered Republican. Considering the amount of time left I could easily hold off but that’s not how I like to do things. I wanted someone to get behind, maybe someone who was seen as an unlikely winner but none-the-less a candidate who shared my morals and my political opinions. For most it’s as easy as whoever wins their parties endorsement but why just accept that? It is important for me to pick the best of the best now and push for them to win the endorsement, not just accept what is given to me.
There are a couple Republican candidates that I would never feel comfortable supporting. Rudy Giuliani for example is not the kind of Presidential Candidate that I could vote for. Some Conservatives have stated that they would support Rudy any way but I think it is ridiculous that we should accept such a candidate. I’m not looking for the most liberal candidate that can sway the left into voting for them. I’m looking for a President that doesn’t sway on his stances just to please voters, if I was looking for that I would pick a Democrat. No, I want someone that doesn’t need to please the petty voters, someone who’s personality says it all.
In the beginning I picked Sam Brownback. He seemed like the best choice, he seemed to fit the puzzle. But as time went on he failed to impress. All he ever talks about is his “three state one nation” plan for Iraq and it’s not what I want to hear. Over time, covering the debates, it became clear to me that Brownback was not the man. Sam is a great candidate and I’m sure he fits in perfectly for his state of Kansas but he could never appeal to the country overall. One candidate I noticed was Mike Huckabee. Huckabee is a guy that everyone likes, he’s a likable guy. As time went on Mike started to sound a lot better to me and according to the polls he is starting to sound good to a lot of other people as well.
Mike is the candidate that most people are looking for. Unlike Romney, Rudy or McCain, Huckabee has a special gift; it’s called integrity. Mike doesn’t need to play politics, he is simply himself and luckily enough he is a very easy going guy. People have been long tired of the politician who reads what he’s told because of the polls and votes wherever he must to win approval. When it comes to life Huckabee is clear, his stance on education is wonderful (read my post on that) and he is the kind of guy that can bring this country together. As a Baptist minister Mike has gotten all the God questions and his replies always impress me. Conservatives don’t need to settle for McCain or Rudy and they don’t need to support a candidate who might not be able to connect with the majority of the country. I endorse Mike Huckabee for President and I’m sure if you spend some time getting to know Mike you will start to like what you hear and I’m sure you too will say “I Like Mike”.
