Let's face it, the Republican party is throwing a hissy fit over Ron Paul. The major consensus is that he does not belong in the Republican party. I have been guilty in believing this myself but let's analyze this further instead of jumping to conclusions. To be honest the only thing that pops into my head when I think about why Ron doesn't fit in the party is his stance on the Iraq war, however, we need to decide if this is a fair judgment. Do you really count out someone as a viable Republican just because they are against the Iraq war? I have come around and decided that that's not fair and doesn't make any sense from a conservative point of view. If you match Paul up with other candidates you will come to the conclusion the he is definitely not the worse pick. He's not my first pick but I can definitely say he is a far better choice than some of the other candidates. We'll be getting into that in the later part of this piece but let's first talk about Ron and whether or not he fits into the Republican party mold.
Ron Paul is the only Republican running for President against the ever more unpopular Iraq war. Paul believes that the Iraq war was wrong from the beginning and believes so because he says is was "sold to us on false information" and believes we should not have gone without a declaration of war voted upon by the Congress, as required by the Constitution. The Iraq war aside, as a Conservative I cannot ignore his stance against abortion. With several other Republicans supporting abortion, Paul has always taken a stand against abortion and believes Roe V Wade is a bad law. No conservative can ignore that fact or the fact that he is against gay marriage, better described as his belief that an amendment should not be made for or against it; none the less it is a reasonable stance. Ron Paul is not a candidate that conservatives should be afraid of, the people we will mention next however are to be avoided.
Rudy Giuliani is a man that many have touted at the most "electable Republican candidate". Why is this such a popular belief? Taking a look at Rudy you will see that the only thing that makes him a viable Republican is his conservatively fiscal voting record. Then there's my issue with Rudy; he's pro-choice and so much pro-choice that he supports government funded abortion as well as partial birth abortion. That's a red flag that I can not ignore, this is where Paul stands higher than Rudy in my opinion. Except for his recent 'conversion', Mitt Romney is another candidate that can not be trusted. He may claim that he has had a sudden change of heart but I'm not buying it, he governed liberally and he would do the same as President. Conservatives can't write Paul off just yet, we're always screaming about abortion and then some of you want to stand by Rudy or Romney? You need to ask yourself where you're going to stand and what issues you will let slide, I can't let abortion slide by just to be praised by my party of choice. Ron Paul may not be my first choice but he's not my last and it's about time we stop the political head games and figure out who's best for the Presidency and not who is best for the party's public relations.
I'm sure a lot of you are here to check things out! Thanks for stopping by and if you like my post please give me a Dig or Stumble! Your comments are welcome and I look forward to discussing politics with you all!
