This is rather sad if you ask me, by all means use your strength during 9/11 to help push your campaign a long but taking it to this level is just sad. Before we shout expletives at Rudy however, it may not even be in direct approval of the campaign. It’s completely reasonable that a supporter would do this all on their own. The title “$9.11 for Rudy” is actually the title of a fundraiser party. Either way it’s rather low that a supporter of Giuliani would find this as reasonable rather than completely unacceptable. There’s no way I would use such a low scheme if I was hosting such a party. On the other hand it’s better than the ridiculous thousands of dollars you usually have to pay for a meal and some chatter at most fundraisers.

“It is nothing short of disrespectful to the legacy of the thousands of civilians and 343 brave firefighters who died at ground zero,” IAFF president Harold Schaitberger said.

A Giuliani spokeswoman said the $9.11 idea was selected without the campaign’s knowledge, “These are two volunteers who acted independently of and without the knowledge of the campaign,” Maria Comella said. “Their decision to ask individuals for that amount was an unfortunate choice.”

Abraham Sofaer, a California resident, is the host responsible for the fundraiser but he also claims to have nothing to do with the name.

“There are some young people who came up with it,” Sofaer said.

I can’t speak for the families of 9/11 but I doubt they would agree with such a distasteful exploit of their loved ones’ passing. It’s not about politics, whether or not he should be using 9/11 as a platform, it is clear that no matter what you feel; $9.11 for Rudy is a horrible idea and should be canned.
