73286318 There’s a story going on now about John McCain saying that he would prefer a Christian president. This is another big fat so what? I’m sure atheists prefer an atheist president, Catholics prefer a Catholic candidate and, amazingly, a Christian prefers a Christian candidate. News outlets have been running with this little story and it’s complete garbage. I’m not sure the reason behind it but for most people I guarantee this is not an issue. Are people going to vote against McCain now because he likes a President of his own faith? That’s ridiculous, if he had said that he would only approve of a Christian president than that would be another issue.

The reason this story is anything is most likely because he stated that he would not prefer that our President be a Muslim. With what is going on in the world, with radical Islam and what not, is that such a bad thing to agree with?

“I just have to say in all candor that since this nation was founded primarily on Christian principles … personally, I prefer someone who I know who has a solid grounding in my faith,” McCain said. “But that doesn’t mean that I’m sure that someone who is Muslim would not make a good president.”

Democrats don’t like that, they like to ignore our Christian roots. It’s a fact that this country was founded by Christians with God’s Word in mind. Times can change and things may be altered but you can’t rewrite history. It’s a valid worry that a Christian would legislate their beliefs into law but isn’t that what others have been doing against our faith? Haven’t I had to sit back while abortion on demand continues to be available? My faith and my Bible has become offensive to the point of being banned, but that’s not the point, anything against Christianity is great but anything for it steps over the imaginary “church and state” law that doesn’t even exist.

Later, McCain said, “I would vote for a Muslim if he or she was the candidate best able to lead the country and defend our political values.”

Asked about Republican rivals Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith, McCain said, “I think that Governor Romney’s religion should not, absolutely not, be a disqualifying factor when people consider his candidacy for president of the United States.”

The Arizona senator was also asked about the confusion over which Christian denomination he belongs to. “I was raised Episcopalian, I have attended the North Phoenix Baptist Church for many years and I am a Christian,” McCain said. He added that he has considered being baptized in the Baptist church, but he does not want to do it during the presidential race because “it might appear as if I was doing something that I otherwise wouldn’t do.”

Since we’re talking about faith let’s look at the Presidential Candidate’s beliefs. Here’s a great read that goes in depth, we’re just going to list things out here. -FoxNews.

    Democrats

Barak Obama - Raised Muslim/ Currently: United Church of Christ
    John Edwards - United Methodist
    Joe Biden - Roman Catholic
    Hillary Clinton - United Methodist
    Christopher Dodd - Roman Catholic
    Mike Gravel - Unitarian
    Dennis Kucinich - Roman Catholic
    Bill Richardson - Roman Catholic

    Republican

    Sam Brownback - Roman Catholic
    Rudy Giuliani - Roman Catholic
    Mike Huckabee - Southern Baptist
    Duncan Hunter - Baptist
    Alan Keyes - Roman Catholic
John McCain - Raised Episcopalian/Says he now attends a Baptist church.
    Ron Paul - Baptist
    Mitt Romney - Mormon
    Tom Tancredo - Evangelical Presbyterian
Fred Thompson - Church of Christ

So, for the most part every candidate is “Christian.” What it comes down to is the person and their morals. You can call yourself whatever you wish but when it comes down to it it’s about the fruit you produce. In other words it’s all about what you do, rather than just say. I’d vote for a Mormon, I’d vote for a Muslim, to me it’s more about your stances and what you would vote for. Yeah, as a Christian I prefer that a Christian be president. But, I would quickly vote in a good Muslim before a bad Christian, see what I’m saying? Faith is very important to individuals that actively practice it but there’s no saying which of these people actually practice their faith. All I can do is look at their lives as an example, as the good word says, “you will know them by their fruits.”
