1924468240_e3f585ccce If I were to predict today’s results in New Hampshire I’d probably agree McCain or Romney would win. What I wouldn’t have agreed with is that Hillary would make a miracle comeback and knock Obama down a step with a win in New Hampshire. What I did say however is that anything could happen and it clearly has. The only thing that is certain is that nothing is for certain. Obama did well enough to continue on, Hillary has a second wind, McCain is the man to beat and Romney is rallying.

For McCain the independent vote was what enabled him to pull through with the victory. Exit polls showed that 37% of voters identified themselves as independent (source). Of the voters McCain was able to pull in 39%, Romney received a decent 27%. The independent vote is the much sought after prize for all candidates. You know that most Republicans and Democrats will vote accordingly but those independents are the only reason that elections are so competitive. With the results so closely contested on both sides of the party divide I am unsure how this will help the candidates. Surely McCain and Clinton benefit the most from these results but they also don’t leave Obama or Romney high and dry.

Hillary’s crying stunt the other day caused the opposite reaction than I would have assumed. The second I heard about what happened I thought, “this is her Dean moment.” You can imagine my complete shock today when she was able to pull ahead of Obama who I predicted would beat Hillary by a large margin. It’s easy for me to feel that way, I don’t like Hillary or Obama, it seems that Democrats saw her crying as showing that she had a soul. I admit, I am very surprised by the thought that Hillary has a soul. Moving on the next couple weeks we should expect some momentum building from all the candidates. Things are not any more certain then they were yesterday, we are still in a dead heap.

So what about Huckabee? After his miraculous win in Iowa some may have guessed that he would rally in New Hampshire. The truth is the complete opposite. Without the evangelical vote to rely on Huckabee pulled in a measly 11% which is barely above Rude whom didn’t even try in New Hampshire. I don’t believe that Huckabee is out for the count, we should expect him to carry on. Most people will start taking a hard look at Huckabee and he will surely try to butter up his past but a lot of people will be left with a bad taste in their mouths when they learn the truth. I imagine he is in for the long run but his chances of pulling off a victory will only become slimmer and slimmer as time goes by.
