Now the Real Race Begins.

So far the primaries have been all over the place. With the open primaries John McCain and Huckabee have been able to pull it off thanks to the independent vote. The real race has yet to start, we will really see things pop once we see the closed primaries take place. It’s clear that McCain has gained a bit of momentum with his last two wins but I have to think Huckabee is on the way out. Things may have been different if Romney would not have pulled out of the state. I don’t think he would have won but I think McCain wouldn’t have done so well more than likely allowing Huckabee to grab the win. With Florida being a closed primary I think we will really see what the party base feels when that primary takes place on Tuesday the 29th.Looking at the results the McCain-Huckabee showing is nothing surprising. What people should be talking about it Thompson’s very strong showing. While Fred’s campaign has been falling short if conservatives start to realize that he is the only good choice I know that things will change. McCain and Huckabee can woo the moderates but they don’t represent the Republican party and they won’t win the conservative vote. Those willing to sacrifice the parties core values for so call “electibility” will continue to support McCain but they are making a big mistake. Some people are easily swayed and will continue to fall for these RINOs and it’s a sad fact. When will conservatives wake up and see that McCain and Huckabee would be a giant mistake?
I don’t think they ever will. Most evangelicals are so gullible they will vote for anyone that gives their emotions a rise. If you speak of faith enough they will gladly vote for you and ignore the other very important issues. People who dream in 9’s and 11’s will happily fall for McCain or Giuliani. If you look at the records and try to search for a consistent conservative you would be blind if you didn’t end up picking Thompson. He is the clear choice and the only candidate that can really be trusted. South Carolina won’t have any effect on the race, I’m not convinced that it will make any difference. Super Tuesday may be the final nail for this race but you really can’t say for sure. I imagine we will know soon enough but I wouldn’t count anyone out just yet.
With that we have a few winners and plenty of losers. Romney took Nevada and McCain took South Carolina, the race has just begun.
