Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee; Confuses Us All.

  • hunterhuck.jpgIn a decision that should confuse any conservative, Duncan Hunter has decided to endorse Mike Huckabee. The fact that Hunter has come out to endorse Huckabee should be shocking to people who understand how solid of a conservative Duncan is. This is the guy that wants to build double fences across the country. Huckabee is a guy that ran a sanctuary state and called anyone who tried to enforce the law “racist.” When I thought I knew everything something like this happens. It makes me wonder what Hunter is getting out of the deal. It’s obvious that he didn’t pick the best choice. Sounds like someone gave him an incentive, say, a promise for a cabinet position.

Michelle Malkin has some good insight on this”breaking news” item.

Disbelief at the Free Republic. This reaction sums it up: “Is this from the Onion?”

    ***

    Let’s review:

Duncan Hunter - Keep Guantanamo Bay open
    Mike Huckabee - Close Gitmo

Duncan Hunter - Staunch border security advocate
    Mike Huckabee - Open-borders ethno-panderer

    ***

Allah: “Mr. Border Fence is backing a guy who accused opponents of Bush’s immigration plan of nativism? Two days after Fred drops out because he can’t pull enough conservatives to beat John McCain? Dude?”

Byron York: “The endorsement of Huckabee just doesn’t seem to fit, given Hunter’s national-security orientation, concern about China, all that. I thought it seemed so odd that, when I got the email a few minutes ago, I called Hunter’s spokesman to make sure it was right. It’s not huge news – Hunter got all of 1,048 votes in the South Carolina – but a number of conservatives who paid close attention to the race liked Hunter, and they usually weren’t the sort to support Huckabee.”

This may well be the most confusing endorsement decision I have seen yet. Perhaps he feels that Huckabee is the only one to beat Romney and McCain and he sees those two as bigger evils? This is more confusing than when Pat Robertson endorsed Giuliani. Heck, it’s even worse than Sam Brownback backing no-spine-McCain. This is just one more sign of hopelessness for conservatives. You can’t even rely on those you consider one of your own. At this rate the next candidate to drop out will end up endorsing Obama.

Maybe Chuck Norris helped “convince” Hunter to “endorse” Mike Huckabee? Either that or I’m in some sort of twilight zone episode.

“The fact that Hunter has come out to endorse Huckabee should be shocking to people who understand how solid of a conservative Duncan is. This is the guy that wants to build double fences across the country. Huckabee is a guy that ran a sanctuary state…”

This keeps on happening with endorsement after endorsement. When will people start to realize that their information about Huckabee might be the problem, not those who are endorsing him! Take a look, I was extremely impressed with him.

Most of this nonsense about him being soft on illegal immigrants is related to his position on how to treat children. But if you look at his record, and what he says, his position on how to treat the ADULTS (the people who are actually breaking the law) is anything but soft. That is why not only Duncan Hunter, but Jim Gilchrist endorsed him too.

It is not about the children who are being dragged across the border by their parents, it is about the borders being wide open. Having some compassion on the kids who are forced to be here anyway has nothing to do with whether someone wants the borders sealed!

    1) Huckabee is the only candidate who signed the “No Amnesty Pledge.”
    2) Huckabee is the only candidate endorsed by Jim Gilchrist and Hunter.
    5) Huckabee is the only candidate to pledge to build the fence by July 2010.
    3) Huckabee is the candidate with the most detailed immigration plan.
    4) Huckabee is the candidate with the toughest immigration plan.

This slant against Huckabee on immigration is ludicrous!

Yeah, a ridiculous endorsement. I’m really confused by it too.

Just goes to show what a siren song the ol’ Huckster weaves, eh?:

“You want bigger government! Yesss… tax those rich corpos, give it back to the middle class….”

Thank you all for your comments!

Andrew everything you listed is spin it’s self, I’m glad Huckabee has decided to declare all these things but his record doesn’t agree with his sudden admonition to fight terrorism. You can’t expect conservatives to back this guy just because he made pledges. Anyone can make a pledge for anything, his past speaks for it’s self and it speaks of an open-border policy.

    Yes, Patrick is completely right.

If Huckabee was literally the last man standing in the race, I’d feel “OKish” about the zillions of pledges. But there are still candidates standing that haven’t, in fact, took the polar opposite stance on every important conservative issue (minus social conservatism, Huckabee’s strong point).

But it IS NOT just his record nor current promises. It is the WAY he CONDUCTS HIMSELF.

Currently I support Mitt Romney. Now, Romney has a similar problem (though not nearly as bad on so many different issues) in terms of having a record that is different than his actual record.

However, Romney doesn’t hide nor spin away from it, either. When asked about his pro-choice stance, his response isn’t spin. It’s something like “I was wrong. I understand that now. I changed my mind and here is exactly WHY I did…”

With Huckabee, he is NEVER EVER WRONG. When asked about his net tax increase, he gets mad. Sputters on about the courts making him do it (not true: the courts simply mandated a certain amount of money to go to the school system, Huckabee could have cut spending in other areas to meet this need).

When asked about his open borders, again, HE CANNOT BE WRONG. I almost never use “all caps” like this but Huckabee just drives me to it (-: He’ll just make some sorry excuse about “having to deal with the mess the federal government made.”

Even Rudy Giuiliani seems more respectable in many respects. He doesn’t spin his pro choice stand. He basically says, “yeah, I am, so deal with it.” I disagree with that stance but I respect that he isn’t running away hiding from his record.

I don’t care who anyone gets endorsements from. I care about someone’s ideas and someone’s record. I dislike Huckabee on both accounts.
