2225923717_3288762f22 Not for the overall nomination but definitely for Rudy. If Rudy expects to go anywhere he must win Florida and win it big. Rudy has been sitting it out so far and weather or not his interesting decision was a good one will be known for sure very soon. There’s no chance for Rudy if he loses, I just can’t see him pulling it off otherwise. Recent polls have not been in Rudy’s favor. They have shown McCain and Romney in a neck to neck tie with Rudy fighting for third. A bronze medal will be a sore loss for Rudy and his camp. If he loses I don’t expect much for him on Super Tuesday and who knows if he will even stay in the race for us to find out.

According to an L.A. Times article, Rudy believes that the winner of Florida will be the winner of the nomination. Of course he also predicted that he would win but with recent fallout it’s questionable if a third place showing is possible let alone a victory.

In a meeting in the back of his chartered plane en route to St. Petersburg, Fla., a short while ago, the onetime, longtime GOP front-runner told a small group of reporters, including The Times’ Louise Roug: “The winner of Florida will win the nomination.”

He then went on to predict he would win. And his spokeswoman, Maria Comella, said later he was speaking with confidence.

While anything is possible, baring a miracle, Rudy will be lucky enough to finish third let alone first. For McCain and Romney the state is also very important. It’s hard to tell at this moment who will take the state. The win would mean more for McCain then it would Romney. The momentum McCain would receive from the win would allow him to push through Super Tuesday victoriously. This is also a Republican only primary which means McCain can not depend on independents. For Romney, it would mean almost as much, it would show that he can stand up to McCain. While both of them need this win it is clear that Rudy will be done without it.

McCain will have to win the Republican vote this time. Being a closed primary that is an obvious statement. McCain has been hard pressed to win the conservative vote so far. The conservative backlash against McCain and Huckabee has been anything but friendly. The big names such as Limbaugh, Drudge and Malkin have all come out against McCain and Huckabee. While these two try to convince others that they themselves are conservative they are spending most of their time convincing people that they aren’t liberals. It’s amusing that they can’t even prove to people that they are legitimately Republican. It’s obvious that you might want to be a trusted Republican if you want to be their nominee for President. Then again we’re talking about the new “conservatism!”
