Fighting the Good Fight of Conservatism

For those of us that call ourselves Conservatives, the good fight is something that we will never give up on. For us it is more than a political stance, it is something that reflects who we are as people. While there are many things in life we may attach ourselves to, conservatism goes farther than a label. We swear by it. It spells out who we are in every single way. The sanctity of Life. The importance of the family. Low taxes, small government and a secure border. While it’s clear that not all Republicans are conservatives, for us, being Conservative comes first. Our dedication to the Republican party is only important because they themselves have chosen to give us a party to fight for.
The reason for this topic is that several people have recently lashed out at me because of my attacks on McCain. One person said that I should respect him because “he fought for me in Vietnam.” Yes, I respect him for his sacrifices but does that mean I cannot questions his tactics and policy decisions? One other went as far as to say that I am in cahoots with Romney and that I “speak worse of the GOP than any left-wing media, and what’s worse, you do it all in the name of the conservatism.” So what I am to do? Lay off McCain? Stick to criticizing the other party? I beg to differ and let me explain why.
We are not in the general election cycle yet. We are currently working on who will get the nomination are we not? So while I have plenty of things to say about Obama and Hillary I find it necessary to speak my voice about the choices we have for the Republican nomination. I have a deep belief that any Democrat would be bad for this country but what happens when a Republican would be just as bad? For me Conservatism comes first, only then does my loyalty to the Republican party matter. Without a Conservative nominee (McCain is not a Conservative), I am left with absolutely no reason to fight for the Republican party. If I am left with a man that supports amnesty, is against the Bush tax cuts and has a history of pushing forth bills with Democrats that compromise Conservative values than I am forced to deny him any support.
There’s something in the air. It seems that popular Conservatives have been making it their daily task to attack McCain and Huckabee. If you find yourself misunderstanding their motives maybe you should re-read the last three paragraphs. I’m not the only one fighting to make sure a Conservative is representing the Republican party. Most top Conservatives are out full force to stop the mess that is the McCain-Huckabee alliance. So while some of you are getting heated over this all maybe it’s time you listen to words of wisdom from people who know their stuff. If you find yourself strongly disagreeing than maybe you’re not Conservative after all (if you even claim it in the first place).
Ann Coulter
“If he’s our candidate, then Hillary’s going to be our girl,” Coulter asserted. “Because she’s more conservative than he is. I think she would be stronger on the war on terrorism. … I absolutely believe that. … I will campaign for her if it’s McCain.”
Rush Limbaugh“McCain’s kind of like the Clintons in a sense: you tell the truth about them and they think it’s a personal attack.”
“John McCain, the leading Republican in the primary field right now, is attacking economics on the basis of class envy. That’s the kind of stuff that just rubs me raw, folks.”
“Senator McCain says that if we waterboard these clowns — these terrorists — we’re no better than our enemy. What do the troops think of that? Just throwing some questions out there, not trying to stir the pot. That happens naturally.”
“Where does McCain think the US government that he wants to run gets its money? It gets it from the citizens who are pursuing profit! And that’s also what funds the military that fuels the precious patriotism of Senator McCain.”
“McCain’s going to need conservative support in the general election or he won’t have a prayer. He knows this, and at some point there probably will be tentacles of reach-out that find their way into certain places. I don’t expect to see one of those tentacles.”
“There are some pro-McCain people with some really caustic comments that are aimed at Mitt Romney: ‘He has all this money.’ Well, he needs to spend all that money to counter the free media McCain’s getting from the Drive-Bys!”
I could go on but I’ve made my point that Rush doesn’t like McCain
Sean Hannity
“It’s immigration. It’s limits on free speech. It’s not supporting tax cuts. These are not small issues to conservatives.”
I think I’m in good company. Let’s continue the good fight and not accept anything less.
