The struggle for racial equality may never end. It’s a simple fact that whoever is the majority will tend to have more rights, control and influence in a society. We have come a very long way and we are now looking at a black candidate that is only inches away from securing the Democratic nomination. When it comes down to it it doesn’t matter who Barack Obama is. It doesn’t matter what he accomplished in his life time, what he voted for, the stances he takes or the things he will do as President. All that matters is that he is black, influential and capable of capturing the Democratic nomination.

Black, white, tan, brown, red, yellow, purple or orange; I couldn’t care less about the color of the man/woman’s skin that is running for president. Throughout this election the only ones pointing out race and sex has been and always has been the Democratic party. It has always been the assumption that the Democratic party is for all minorities but now that two of them are battling for the same prize it’s getting very clear which party has racial issues. But that’s where Barack Obama comes in. The only thing that makes him a minority is his skin color. He is a successful man that has no clue what poverty is. That doesn’t matter. He is a brilliant speaker and he is black. He is the minority messiah. Only skin deep.

If Barack Obama was white would he have the allure that he has? If he were Hispanic would people flock to hear him speak? Watching the Democrats fight has been amusing but it’s even more amusing by the fact that they are all the same. They have the same vision for America yet no one is as zealous for Clinton as some are for Obama. They both want universal health care, more government and more taxes. It’s all the same but slap on some dark skin and all of a sudden the party goes crazy. If the Democratic party is the party fighting for racial equality why are they being biased against Clinton? Does it not matter because she is white? Or are we too afraid to talk about it?

It’s obvious that people, especially those in the Democratic party, see Barack Obama as their messiah. Sure he says the same exact thing the rest of them do but he does it with elegance, flair and dark skin. For years they were stuck with rich old white men to preach their message and now they have Obama, a rich not-so-old black man to carry them to the promised land. We should all sit back and enjoy the ride. While the Democrats are slashing each other back and forth we can enjoy some real debate. As a white man I know I’m not allowed to discuss race but someone has to. I’m not the one that brought it up I just think it’s time we get to the real issues and not rely on one’s skin color.
