Prayer for Kennedy

  • When it comes to politics there aren’t very many people that I disagree with more than Ted Kennedy. However, sometimes politics isn’t the most important issue. One of those times would be when someone is in a life threatening situation. On Tuesday Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, a more than likely fatal diagnoses. I have seen some people on the internet taking their time to set aside politics to offer their condolences to Ted and his family, I would like to join them. To those taking the lesser route and saying hurtful and heartless things you have disgusted me, whether or not you care is not my concern.

It is important for us to listen to the teachings of Christ if we are to call ourselves Christians. For those that don’t go by theses rules, the morals should still apply. We are called to love, not just those that love us back but those we would consider our enemy. I am appalled at how some out there are inconsiderate enough to take this moment to strike down Ted Kennedy, do they have no heart? I mean, come on, what if it were you in his situation? It seems to me that some people cannot seperate politics from humanity. For that they should be ashamed.

I’d love to be a bigger man and join them, but I can’t. I don’t feel any sympathy for him. Certainly, I’m not glad that he’s been stricken so. The news doesn’t make me happy but neither does it make me sad. - The Sundries Shack.

Alright, so that’s probably not the kindest headline I could’ve come up with. What can I say? I spare no expense for the Swimmer, who has just been identified as diagnosed with (there goes that knee-jerk reactionary-ism again) a malignant brain tumor. - Snapped Shot.

Winner of the “I have no soul” award:

You heard me. Good. Frankly, I’m tired of the hypocrisy and I won’t be one of the hypocrites. Ted Kennedy, aside from the fact that he’s indirectly responsible for an untold number of travesties committed against democracy, he is directly responsible for the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, something for which he’s never been held accountable.

So, I’ll say it again. Good. I’m glad to know that Ted Kennedy is suffering right now. Kopechne would be 68 this summer, just a year older than my father. Kennedy has denied this woman a lifetime while he continued to skate through his life of wealthy entitlement.

It is an absolute truth when I say the following:

America would be a better place without Ted Kennedy in it and at least one innocent woman would still be alive.

Hurry up, Ted! Don’t let coffin hit your butt on the way out!! - The Whole Bird.

These hate filled rants should not be part of any conservative conversation. Remember the reaction towards the death of Jerry Falwell? Was that acceptable? No, and neither is this situation. You really have to look in the mirror and ask yourself, “is there a spec in my eye? Can I cast the first stone?” I imagine you will lie to yourself if you are someone that agrees with these people’s remarks. I don’t think you read my post well, or any of the comments that followed. You say that my comments seek to “strike down” Kennedy even though you quoted me as specifically saying that I’m not happy that he has this tumor. Twice.

If you think I consider Kennedy an enemy of that I hate him because of his politics, then you are grossly mischaracterizing me and ignoring my specific statements to the contrary.

But, I do understand the need and desire in a situation like this to deliver a lecture so you can seize and hold the moral high ground. Since I’m not interested in taking that particular hill, please lecture away. The ground is yours.

Right, and this isn’t saying the same thing as “I don’t care he has it?”

I’d love to be a bigger man and join them, but I can’t. I don’t feel any sympathy for him.”

I’m not “seizing” anything. If you don’t have it in you to feel for someone going through such trauma than it’s yourself you have to deal with and “seize” the opportunity to grow past those flaws.

By the way, even though I disagree with you, I appreciate the follow up.

While you’re right about one thing, that all conservation is open, I disagree that is something conservatives should induldge themselves in. What’s the point? Does it make us bigger people by cursing the names of others?

I don’t think we need to stoop to that level. Does Kennedy deserve it? It’s not my right to say. His fate is between him and God, it’s not my place to pass judgement on events that only he knows about for certain. Once we get into this mode we end up calling ourselves judge and jury, we are neither.

I’m sure you have a spec in your eye, are you free of sin? The saying doesn’t relate to doing the same thing, it relates to judging ones sin when we are all sinful and have no right to judge.

    You have it completely right Patrick, so while not with the same sarcasm as the other commenter, let me agree with him when he says to lecture away (-;

Conservatives absolutely have to refrain from saying evil things during this time. And make no mistake: saying anything but wishes of goodwill to a man stricken with a horrible disease is just that: evil.

The reaction of any Christian to news like this is simple: fervant, enthusiastic prayers for recovery. Conservative Christians such as ourselves are more than willing to do battle with our opponents, but that battle is limited to the political arena only. This should be something that always marks us as different from our liberal rivals, who are always ready to resort to personal attacks and slander.

Good to be back- they absolutely tried to kill me at Grad school (The Guildhall @ SMU in Plano Texas) last semester with 80 hour weeks being the norm- so yeah, I took a bit of a sabbatical from blogging in general!

School? Ah, who needs it. You need to stick around here to fight off the liberals and rinos! Hah, nah. Keep the comments coming, they always add wonderfully to the conversation.
