Dear John McCain, What are you Doing?

    Mr. John McCain,

You know we’ve had some rough times. The people on the right, the conservatives, have been eye balling you for awhile. We didn’t like the idea of such a radical moderate winning our party’s nomination but some of us have gotten over it. We tried to anyway. We thought to ourselves, “he’s better than Obama, right?” But we’re all scratching our heads now that you’re thinking about putting a pro-choice candidate in your veep spot. Ridiculous! Are you really that naive?

You have the independents on your side John, most of them will end up picking you over Obama because you’re not as liberal. This means that you can stop all of the pandering. You know who you need to impress? Conservatives like me. Are you forgetting that you have to win over Republicans? I know you’re a moderate and all but you’re a Republican not an independent. So stop screwing around and start vying for your own party would you?

What’s crazy to me is that you’re now flirting with the idea of choosing a pro-choice Republican as your veep. You might as well go all the way and find yourself someone that is also pro-gay-marriage, pro-high-taxes–heck, go all the way and pick yourself a Democrat–that’s what you’re aiming for anyway, right? If you’re trying to piss us all off then you’re doing a great job. If you’re hoping to push us into voting for a third party candidate or no one at all then you’re doing a great job.

Ads pay the bills. Thank you for your support.

Call me crazy but I’m a bit annoyed by the shenanigans. The Republican party is telling us to go for you and I was starting to prepare myself to do so. I understand in the long run that you’re better than Obama but these types of stunts make me think otherwise. Are you more worried about winning the left then your own party? Do you think you can win with just the independent vote?

If not you’re doing a great job proving otherwise. I don’t expect you to become the conservative we all dream of–I already know you’d be lying–but do you have to throw us into the river to drown just to catch the prize? I don’t think so. I happen to think you’re throwing away your chances of winning with these little stunts.

John McCain’s admission to the Weekly Standard’s Steve Hayes (”Shayes” to friends) that he would consider the possibility of choosing a pro-choice running mate is rightly seen as a trial balloon to gauge reaction among conservative base voters to such a move.

“I think that the pro-life position is one of the important aspects or fundamentals of the Republican Party,” McCain told Hayes. “And I also feel that — and I’m not trying to equivocate here — that Americans want us to work together. You know, [former Pennsylvania Governor] Tom Ridge is one of the great leaders and he happens to be pro-choice. And I don’t think that that would necessarily rule Tom Ridge out.”

Later he added: “I think it’s a fundamental tenet of our party to be pro-life but that does not mean we exclude people from our party that are pro-choice. We just have a — albeit strong — but just it’s a disagreement. And I think Ridge is a great example of that. Far more so than [New York City Mayor Michael] Bloomberg, because Bloomberg is pro-gay rights, pro, you know, a number of other issues.”

It is a fundamental tenet. That means if someone doesn’t follow that tenet they are pulling for the wrong side. They are what we call RINOs. You know, that thing we all like to call you. We just want to believe that you’re running for the Republican party. That is why, for some reason, people decided to nominate you.

They have this ridiculous idea that you’re representing their ideals. I laugh at that thought. This is a hard lesson for everyone to learn. Going with the most electable is not always the  best way to go. You are ideal for radical moderates and anyone on the left’s fringe but anyone towards the right can smell this garbage from a mile away. Step away from the liberalism Mr. McCain, it’s not as glamorous as it looks.

    Sincerely,
    Patrick Britton
