Playing Politics With Abortion

Abortion is different than other political issues because of the moral implications. The two candidates this election cycle have turned this issue into nothing more than a chess piece. Strategically moving it where it is most beneficial to their campaigns.

It’s nothing new for politicians to sway with the wind to sway the vote. Abortion is not the type of issue that you can play with. Supporters on both sides of the issue should be angry with how these two, specifically McCain, are dealing with the issue.

There are a few issues that you can look past with a candidate. Protecting the border is one of the issues that has become fair game. We can’t treat abortion the same way. John McCain’s recent testing of the waters with this issue is a perfect example of how he looks at abortion.

The fact that he is willing to choose a pro-choice candidate shows that he isn’t interested in upholding any certain standard. He is simply interested in attracting the pro-choice voter while claiming to be pro-life. He wants both sides of the coin in other words.

Abortion isn’t an issue that you can play with. John McCain needs to decide if he is pushing a pro-life candidacy or not. If McCain picks a pro-choice veep then it is clear that he wants both our votes but isn’t going to do anything about abortion when the time comes.

That means if you pick McCain because of his pro-choice veep you are foolish. The same goes for any pro-lifers that choose him for that reason. Abortion to McCain is like immigration; whatever side brings the most votes is the side he wants.

The point of this article is to outline how little John McCain thinks about pro-life voters. He wants you to know that he is pro-life. He also wants you to know his number two might be pro-choice. In essence he wants you to know that the issue of abortion no longer matters.

Pro-lifers will vote for him because he is better than Obama on this issue. Some pro-choicers may vote for him because of his choice of veep. What’s this all mean? It means John McCain needs to quit playing politics with abortion and tell us where he stands. He can’t have it both ways.
