John McCain pulled a fast one of the Dems today when he announced that his veep choice was not just a conservative, pro-life, pro-gun Republican but a woman as well. The McCain camp has finally shown that it has some guts. The pundit’s heads are spinning as they try to decipher what this all means. It means that Obama snubbed the women voters and McCain took full advantage of it. Maybe you won’t vote for McCain just because he picked a woman but many others will. Obama could have saved face by picking a woman as his veep but thanks to his safety net pick of Biden, McCain has been able to swing around full force and secure an absolutely fantastic choice.

Palin isn’t just a woman. Palin is a solid conservative with credentials to back it up. Palin is a staunchly pro-life Republican who has five children of her own, one that happens to have Downs Syndrome. She is a supporter of the death penalty, a lifetime member of the NRA, and a fiscal conservative. When it comes down to it Palin is unknown but perfect for the job. Obama will have a hard time tearing this apart. He has to tip toe around Palin because he has already neglected woman voters enough. He’s already attempted an attack on her lack of foreign policy experience but that’s like the pot calling the kettle black.

“Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency,” Bill Burton, Obama campaign spokesman.

Realizing the irony of their comment they quickly retracted.

“yet another encouraging sign that old barriers are falling in our politics. While we obviously have differences over how best to lead this country forward Governor Palin is an admirable person and will add a compelling new voice to this campaign,”

There’s an important message being sent to us conservatives. McCain danced around the idea of a pro-choice veep and he heard our pleas. I expected McCain to thumb his nose at us and do as he pleased but he proved me wrong by doing the exact opposite. The fact is that he is listening to what we have to say. Not only did he pick a pro-life veep, he picked an impressive woman with solid conservative credentials all around the table. The veep doesn’t usually affect the election but you can guarantee this is not the case this year. I’ve been very weary of a McCain presidency but because of this significant decision I am ready to vote for McCain.

The reason that McCain’s choice of veep is such a significant choice is because of his age. At the age of 72 it is completely reasonable to recognize the possibility of McCain passing away during his presidency. McCain is healthy for his age and shows no sign of stopping anytime soon. It’s still in the front of everyone’s mind and will affect how people vote. The decision to vote for McCain will be made with his veep in mind. McCain has always been known as the maverick, the reformer, but has made it clear to conservatives that this time around he will be working with us. Just saying those words means nothing. Choosing someone that represents our values seals the deal.

This is exciting. How will the left go about attacking a woman? It’s bound to be fun to watch.
