The media and various feminist groups has lit and fans a raging fire about Sara Palin since McCain’s announcement that she will be his running mate on the Republican ticket.

The feminists’ panties are in a twisted wad because they fear Roe vs. Wade is in jeopardy now and oh my god; 17-year-old Bristol Palin is pregnant. What kind of mother is Sarah Palin anyway? How could she let this happen? Obviously, she can’t have it all - mother of five, one of which has Down Syndrome, and another pregnant, and as if it weren’t enough to be Governor of Alaska twice, now she’s running for VP of the U.S.A, for god’s sake, and see, her family is falling apart!

Bunk. Hogwash. Ridiculous outrage that only proves that liberals never look beyond their contradictory, rhetorical noses.

This is America where women have been fighting for equal rights in every arena of life since before the official Women’s Suffrage Movement in 1848. The right to choose which road we travel in life, and the resolute right to juggle both children and career without constraints or mockery has been an American battleground that has seen major changes for women since the worthy fight began. It was an important fight that brought with it an unparalleled passion this country hadn’t seen since Susan B. Anthony. And 40 years after the women’s rights movement upped the ante in the ‘60s, more women than ever before in history are free to live their lives according to their personal choices and male interference be damned. Thank you, women’s rights groups everywhere! You stuck by your issues so that women can be free to choose the life they see as vital and worthy to their own destinies.

One third of females, by the time they reach 21 years old, become pregnant in this country. And eighty percent of them say the pregnancy was unplanned…unwanted. That Bristol Palin is pregnant at 17 is not an amazing or emerging circumstance. All daughters have a right to sit down with their mother to discuss the pregnancy and what they agree is best. And that’s exactly what Bristol and Sara Palin did. They were able to make a choice because of the privilege and human right to do so that was provided to American women by American women who saw the vision of the Women’s Suffrage.

Millions of working moms, have managed to raise children, keep house, do laundry, and enjoy a career. This is not a new anomaly. Motherhood has a way of making us stronger, more resilient, and smarter as we go about our lives doing what we feel is important to do. We have chosen the challenges of sacrifice before convenience, or expediency, and the walk down this road has made us who we are today - women who are comfortable with both nurturing in the home and being at ease in a boardroom.

Sarah Palin is the poster person for choice. I’ve seen the pictures of her nursing her baby while signing a bill as Governor of Alaska. Now she’s exercising that inalienable right that women’s rights groups fought for long and hard. It was a good and honorable fight.

Feminists, wake up. Don’t you see a mirror image in Sarah Palin, a shining example of that good fight you fought that women might be free of oppression? We should be coming together, as American women, applauding this sister for all her remarkable fruits of labor. We can learn from her, as she sets the example to all of us, that no matter what sort of hurdles and stumblings life may bring us to overcome, we can choose the best road to travel, which forks in that road to follow, and therefore receive strength from one another as we continue to seek the best lives for ourselves and our families.

We really can flourish in the face of any of the hurdles and stumblings that may come in life.
