Same-day Voting in Ohio Raises Some Questions

The elections are still 36 days away but people in Ohio are already voting by absentee. There’s nothing special about voting absentee but what is interesting is the ability for people to register and to vote in the same day. The main problem for politicians has been to get lazy voters into the voting booths on election day. That is not a problem because in Ohio, until October 6th, the Democratic machine is allowed to get out and convince people to register to vote and to vote for Obama at the same time.

In the name of voter’s rights political forces are being allowed to round up voters that would more than likely not vote in November. It’s great that people are being persuaded to register but following up with an absentee ballot is unethical. Instead of allowing people to vote at their own whim they are being coerced to do so for the Democratic nominee. People have a right to vote for who they want when legally allowed. I see this as political bullying and not the proper way to get out the vote.

When the get out the vote effort is for the sake of people’s rights it’s one thing. When it’s used just to get a vote for your specific candidate and uses questionable tactics it becomes unethical. It’s also clear that allowing same-day voting benefits only the Democratic Party. Being able to rally the homeless, minorities, college students and others who don’t take the time to vote and giving them an express lane convinces people to vote before they are properly educated. “Vote here, vote Obama.” It’s clearly a distortion and abuse of the law.

This same scerio would not be allowed in a church or large corporation would it? Can the Republican Party send people into a church to register people to vote and then vote at the same time? People would be screaming fraud at the top of their lungs. Considering the target voters are college students and minorities all is well.

To make things worse there is no way to prove that the people voting are legally allowed to vote. They say they will take the time to validate these voters but who’s going to make sure they do? How can you find out if a homeless man can legally vote in the state of Ohio? Are you making sure they have an actual SSN? I don’t know the full details but pushing through these votes so quickly can’t be completely legitimate. It’s obvious that the Democrats really don’t care about that.

Get yourself out there and convince as many people as possible to register to vote. Leave them to go and vote on their own. There is no need to put pressure on anyone to vote for your specific candidate the same moment they register to vote. This is especially true for someone who isn’t going to vote anyway and will probably vote Obama because you’re staring them in the face with your Obama gear. Political partisonship in the name of a person’s right to vote.
