Let me lead off by saying that Ifill did a wonderful job. On paper it wasn’t clear what kind of moderator she would be because of her personal interest in Obama. If I had not known about her book I would not have had any idea that she was behind Obama. It’s important to address this because many people, including myself, were not too happy about her being the moderating and in the end she did a great job.

I have to say that the one thing I am left with is that Biden sounded like a broken record. His only argument against McCain is that he has similar policies to Bush. You either agree with the war or you don’t, you either agree with the progress in Afghanistan or you don’t; having a similar stance on those issues doesn’t mean that you’re the same as Bush. It’s clear that McCain is no Bush, he never follows someone else’s instructions, that is why he is called a maverick.

Sarah Palin was the clear winner in this debate. She answered most questions without waffling and didn’t need to call Obama another President Bush to make her point. She was able to argue against Obama and Biden by pointing out who they are and what they voted for. That is a very important note. While Biden wants to mold McCain into President Bush, Palin doesn’t have to paint the Democratic ticket as something other than what it is. She was very confident and had a no nonsense attitude. What’s not to like about that?

Biden didn’t come off too well for anyone not already a supporter of his ticket. He was arrogant and very repetitive. If you have to make the same point the entire hour and a half it’s obvious that you either have a short term memory or like to hear your own voice. Biden needs to lighten up a little bit. Yeah, you’re in a debate but it’s a debate with words not hand guns. The only positive for Biden is that he didn’t make any obvious gaffes. When it comes to getting the message out he completely failed. All I heard was “Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush.” Who’s Obama running up against again?
