Guy Fired by Bush Endorses Obama
-
It’s no surprise that Colin Powell has come out to endorse Barack Obama. The timing brings a lot into question. Why did he wait so long? Does he expect Obama to win so he wanted to go with the safest bet? Perhaps he’s still a little peeved that Bush kicked him out of the White House? There’s a lot of questions, including the obvious fact that Obama shares his skin color, but I’m sure Colin will stick with the mantra of change.
So, let’s see how much of his reasons are just Obama talking points.
“I don’t believe [Palin] is ready to be president of the United States,” Powell said flatly. By contrast, Obama’s running mate, Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, “is ready to be president on day one.”
Powell also said he was “troubled” by Republican personal attacks on Obama, especially false intimations that Obama was Muslim and Republicans’ recent focus on Obama’s alleged connections to William Ayers, the founder of the radical ’60 Weather Underground.
Yeah, that’s a reason to pick the next president. Because the other one is being a politician.
“The really right answer is what if he is?” Powell said, praising the contributions of millions of Muslim citizens to American society.
“I look at these kind of approaches to the campaign, and they trouble me,” Powell said. “Over the last seven weeks, the approach of the Republican Party has become narrower and narrower.”
“This is the time for outreach,” Powell said, saying the next president would have to “reach out and show the world there is a new administration that is willing to reach out.”
“I think that [Obama] has a definite way of doing business that will serve us well,” Powell said.
So Colin Powel has no reason for endorsing Obama. “Reaching out to the world” and “he’ll serve us well” are two of the most empty reasons for an endorsement that I have ever heard. We don’t hear about how much he likes Obama socialist plans on wealth redistribution and abortion. He wants a president that can reach out not in! So there you have it. Colin gets a guaranteed spot in Obama’s cabinet and we all get a pointless endorsement from a man with a reason to be sour.
Ok, so, here’s Colin’s reason for endorsing Obama. He’s (Obama) proven to be experienced enough just by being a Senator for two years. Palin is not qualified but she was a mayor for six years and then a governor of a state for two years. Obama will talk to people, including people like Ahmadinejad I might add, and he thinks reaching out is more important than reaching in. Finally, the Republican Party is a meanie to Obama and Obama will serve us well. Alright, there’s a lesson on no-issue voting.

There is no big wow in this endorsement. Gen. Powell has really played both sides of the fence anyhow, so I think he is just trying to be on the right side, so to speak. Also, when Gen. Powell announced that he was a Republican in 2000, I really do not remember what his reasons were. Did he believe in basic Republican principles? Interesting.
