Political Burnout

I know one of the golden rules of blogging is to never apologize. I’m going to break that rule because I have obviously fallen off the blog a little. The months prior to the elections were very hectic for me. I’m not a professional writer and it was more than I am used to. With that in mind I just want you to know I’m not going away anytime soon. If you’re sitting there smiling because The Daily Conservative stopped talking I’m here to burst your bubble. I’m just taking a break! Sorry Dems.
Politics is a tough game. It’s tough for me because I enjoy it but become burned out after awhile. I’m not generally a bitter person but spending the past few months knee deep in politics has made me very bitter at times. I have attempted to be positive and uplifting but it’s something I have failed to do too often. After the elections I needed a little break and I think it’s time to get back on track. This time though, it’s going to be a little different.
I’m not changing politically just the tone I take. My latest article, God Help Us, is exactly what I’m going for. My recently started project Red Onions may get the axe until I decide what to do with it. I don’t like the bitter old politics that we’re all so used to. I want to stand up against the things I disagree with but I don’t want to do so with the hate we’re all so used to. Do I regret the angry things I have said in the past? Absolutely not. Some things really burn me up and that won’t ever change. I just hope to find a peaceful middle ground. If I don’t, I’ll just become one more grumpy old man in the crowd.
It’s a slight change in direction but not a reversal. For you the reader, not much will change. You may notice a change of tone. You’ll notice me putting more energy into the positive. You may even find yourself turning to my articles for a break from the usual. I am a Christian, I’m not always the best one and I want to change all that. I think I can start by writing with a little more heart. I’ve always been passionate and it’s time I’m a little more–dare I say–hopeful. I hope some of you decide to make the change as well. Doom and gloom is not what conservatism is all about.
Part of this is a personal reflection on the most recent poll results on the site. The question is “What are your feelings on the next four years?” The answer is a resounding “worry.” I get it, I’m a bit worried too. Maybe all this worry is the result of some people losing their faith in this country. You watched the most liberal and inexperienced man in history glide to victory. I understand that everything seems to be falling apart. There’s no doubt in my mind that the next four years are going to be tough. We can make it. The first step is to get our heads on straight. We can’t make progress with worry clouding our minds.
