Harsh Truths

  • The goal for this blog has been very simple since it’s creation: to represent conservatism to the best of my abilities. A lot of screws have come lose through this process and some people have been made very uncomfortable. The typical right-wing antics have come to a screeching halt the minute they step into these pages. They can’t seem to separate their altered ideology from real conservatism. The same people that nod their heads at one of my articles are now attacking another. I think they should open their eyes a little wider before they go blind.

Conservatism is not a growing idea. It’s solid, it has roots that cannot be moved. Still, we have a lot of people who subscribe to some parts of conservatism and not the rest. Then there are people who attach current situations to conervatism and think it can’t exist without them. Conservatism is not a religion. There is no Jesus at the center of it. My point to that is my recent discussion on the Iraq War. I see the need to bring it to a close–in a safe manner–so now I’m a anti-war hippie! Thanks for the revelation.

I’m anything but anti-war but that accusation benefits their argument. I’m sure this same person is right beside me as I fight for the unborn, the sanctity of marriage and our constitution. Those strong simularities fly out the window once they realize we disagree on the Iraq War. Is the Iraq War the center of conservatism? Is fighting terrorism now the center of what it means to be a conservative? Could I be pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro-gun control but support the Iraq War and be your pal?

Is an individual allowed to make a judgement call on a certain situation or does he have to take the whole pie? I support the fight against terrorism and will always support actions to bring those evil men and women to justice. I have come to a personal conclusion that we have done all that we can do in Iraq. Is that OK? Can I decide for myself that Iraq should start to maintain it’s self? Or does this mean you’re going to try and take my conservative badge away from me? Maybe conservatism is a little more flexible than the obsession with Iraq?

I didn’t really want to drag this out but I felt it was needed. There are too many trolls roaming around mistaking themselves for conservatives. If you want to sprinkle your liberalism with a little social conservatism that’s fine with me. I just want you to name it something else. I’m not here to pander to anyone so get that thought out of your head. Disagreeing with me is the first step to realizing you are probably not a conservative. I’m sure you don’t like to hear that, you’ve gotten comfortable with your church pals and the GOP. It’s not about some sort of loyalty to a party folks. It’s about loyalty to ideals and the protection of our constitution

This is what it all comes down to: you either learn what conservatism is or you make your exit. Let’s not act like liberals, making compromises because of our situation. Conservatives don’t bail out industries because they’re going to fail due to their own actions. Conservatives do no take away freedoms from Americans for so-called safety. Conservatives don’t allow the border to stand wide open while they protect us by spending us into debt in another country. The conservative movement has stalled because it has been infected. There is nothing wrong with our morals, there’s nothing wrong with what we believe, there’s something wrong with a group of individuals who have tainted the good name of conservatism and they must be rooted out.
